February 21st

  1. Complete your “Final” 15″ X 15″ cardboard map of the Pacific Northwest. You may go larger if you want. Use whatever materials and colors you want.
    1. Do the best job you can! We will be grading your map on your effort and creativity!
  2. Review all past mapping assignments to make sure you include all listed items. Make a list if necessary or make a 3×5 card for each item. If you use 3×5 cards, you will be able to use them next week in class when you are displaying your map.  I highly recommend it.
    1. Very Important Note:  After you have listed all items, you should also be ready to explain how each item was named and a little background. Example: The Waiilatpu Mission, means “Place of Rye Grass” and the local tribe were the Cayuse Indians.
    2. For locations of the various Protestant and Catholic missions you may need to use an encyclopedia or online source. Also, if asked, be ready to describe the differences between the Protestants and Catholics. This information is in Chapter 4.
    3. Be sure to include 3 major Cascade Mountains (like Mt Rainer, etc), the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Also include Three island crossing.
    4. If you need to refresh your memory on Three island crossing here’s the website. You can select the history tab to remember what we discussed in class and check out the map for location.

  3. Bring your map next week and place it on one of the tables. The full class time frame (12:00 to 12:50PM) will be used for displaying your map and answering questions and other discussion points.
  4. You will be graded on the following categories, there is a maximum of 10 points for each category:
    1. Completness
    2. Readability
    3. Accuracy
    4. Creativity
  5. Mrs B will assist in grading each map.

February 13th

  1. On your 15″ X 15″ cardboard map of the Pacific Northwest add all the “Mapping” Items on page 136.  Please Note:  This is a preliminary map. You can begin to prepare a final map, Be creative, make mountains, etc, paint where possible and use neatness.  Use the lessons you learned for positioning, scaling and inserting all the items. You will have the next 2 weeks to complete this assignment.  Also: This will be the only assignment next week after Ch-4.
  2. Read pages 107-135 in your textbook.
    1. Make a 3 by 5 study card for only the odd numbered “Identification” items, page 136 of the textbook:

  1. Using a 15″ X 15″ piece of cardboard, make a map of the Pacific Northwest identifying the 3 states and the 5 natural regions. Be as creative as you can! This is only the first step in creating your map. Please bring it to class, but note, it will not be graded at this time.
  2. Read pages 1-35 in your textbook.
    1. Make a 3 by 5 study card for each of the following “Identification” items, page 36 of the textbook:
      1. 1, 4, 6, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17. 20, 23, 26, and 29.
