LAB REPORT
Writing Your Science Lab Report
A lab report consists of three sections: Data, Summary, and Conclusion.
You can think of each section as the answer to a question –
Data (25 points)
What materials did I use in this experiment? List them here.
Summary (25 points)
What did I do in this experiment? Explain the procedure in a
complete paragraph, and in your own words. Also include a diagram as
appropriate to illustrate the setup of your equipment.
Conclusion (50 points)
What did I learn from this experiment? This is both the most
important section, AND the most difficult one to write. You must explain
the purpose of the lab in another complete paragraph, again in your own
words. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “My experiment failed. What do
I say about that?” Well, you must be a reliable scientist and report the
results of your lab exactly as they occurred; however, you must also be
a thorough scientist and hypothesize about the reasons for its failure.
